Today’s post is the next in our series of Blog With Friends themed collaborations. Each month a group of bloggers get together and each publish a project based on a theme. What I love about his partnership is that it's not bloggers with similar interests or strengths but a diverse group coming up with a variety of posts. In any given month we may a recipe, sewing tutorial, crocheting, crafts project, book review, and/or technology post all related to the theme of the month.
This month's theme is Read Across America.
There will be individual project pictures and links to what everyone else has to offer at the end of my post, but here's a peek at what we all came up with:
I made Pepperoni Parmesan Crescents.
Pepperoni Parmesan Crescents
Read Across America was one week ago today. Since its inception in 1997, the day is generally celebrated on March 2nd (or the week day closest to the 2nd, as it's celebrated in schools). It's a day for commemorating reading, and it's observed on March 2nd because that is the birthday of Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss). Other names for this is Cat in the Hat Day, Green Eggs and Ham Day, and Dr. Seuss Day.
Theodore (Seuss) Geisel was born in Massachusetts (yay), was well educated, and along with other accomplishments, went on to write and illustrate over 60 books as Dr. Seuss. For me, his biggest accomplishment was to add fun and whimsy and untethered imagination to reading in a way it hadn't been before, a perfect introduction to the joy of reading for many children through the generations. Choosing his birthday as Read Across America Day was a great choice.
I'm a reader. My genre of choice is mystery. Most books that I read I wouldn't read again. After all, I know the ending But I'll sit down with a child and read a Dr. Seuss book over and over again.
In terms of this blog post, of course you know I celebrate with food. I shared a really fun recipe years ago when we chose the theme Green for our March Blog With Friends, I called it Green, Egg and Ham. Today I'm sharing the recipe for a snack, because the only thing I love more than sitting down with a book, is sitting down with a book and a snack. What I love about these Pepperoni Parmesan Crescents is that they're quick and easy to make, so making them doesn't eat (get it, eat?) into my reading time. And they're a warm snack for these cold days.
Start by gathering a few ingredients:
Brush the dough with the seasoned butter and sprinkle with the cheese:
Separate the dough along the perforation, one by one place a pepperoni snack stick at the end of each triangle:
Bake:
Grab a plate and your book:

Don't forget these when you're looking for an appetizer too. When I put these crescents out as an appetizer, I serve them with warm Homemade Marinara for dipping.

Pepperoni Parmesan Crescents

Printable RecipeIngredients:
1 TBSP butter
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried parsley
1 tube (8 rolls) crescent roll dough
2 TBSP shredded Parmesan cheese
8 pepperoni snack sticks, unwrapped
OPT: warm Homemade Marinara sauce for serving
Directions:
*Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
*Melt the butter. Mix in the garlic power and parsley.
*Carefully unroll the dough. With a pastry brush, gently brush the dough with the butter mixture. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese.
*Slice the dough along the perforation to separate into 8 pieces. One by one, place a pepperoni snack stick along the long end of each piece.
*Starting with that long end, roll the dough up to the point forming a crescent, and place on the baking sheet.
*Bake for 12 minutes or until browned.
*OPT: serve with warm marinara sauce for dunking.
