When it came time to style our new furniture pieces I had to stretch myself because the Coronavirus quarantines had just began. It ended up being a blessing. It’s easy to get excited and want to run around buying all new decor. But instead I shopped my house first, which is always a good idea. This gave me a clear idea of what was needed and what was not, saving me from making unnecessary purchases.
Bedding
The white duvet, white euro shams, and white flat sheet were leftover from the previously bedding look. The all white sheets fell a little flat and didn’t have enough interest. So, I swapped the white top sheet and a set of pillows out for this striped set. The cream background broke up all the white, and the tan stripe (they call it grey but it’s more tan) added a subtle pattern. This is a great way to mix up your existing bed linens!
I pulled out a grey blanket that hadn’t been used in a while and folded the duvet differently for a new look. The fringe lumbar pillow had been living on our sofa, but worked perfectly as an accent pillow here. That’s a benefit of purchasing items that can work in a number of areas in your home.
Rug
Before my furniture arrived I made sure was in place. Let me tell you, it is so much easier to place furniture on top of a rug than the other way around. I found this rug that can be found on popular designer sites for much less. Mine is the 6’7″x9’6″. The bed is a queen size and I initially planned on doing an 8×10, but knew I would have into an issue with the door opening on the rug. The smaller size functions with the door opening and still works under a queen sized bed. What’s so great about this rug is that it has a beautiful vintage look for a killer price.
Art
I have lusted after this White Sands piece from Juniper Print Shop for so long. Finally, I had the perfect place for it! This is the 24×36 print which perfectly fits the IKEA Ribba frame. I love how light and soft this piece is. Going without a mat gives it a more modern look.
Hat Wall
Previously, I had a grouping of hats over the bed. I knew I wanted to keep the same look so I moved them over to a narrow wall and added some additional hats I had to the collection. This is a great way to add some interest and texture to your walls while freeing up space in your closet. If you don’t have a collection, a great place to start looking is Amazon. That’s where I found my favorite hat and others.
Faux Olive Tree
This corner doesn’t receive good sunlight from the window due to the way our house is oriented. There is no way a living plant is going to survive in this spot. For the photos I moved our faux olive tree in from the living room to see if I liked the look. I love the look and plan on adding a different faux tree to this area soon. Trying things out from other parts of your house gives you an idea for what will and what won’t work.
Other Decor
Another item that I kept from the previous room were the bamboo blinds and drapes. No need to change what already is working. Every other piece of decor was found by shopping the house. Swapping out decor and rotating things throughout the house helps freshen things up. It’s also a lot easier on the wallet.
